FAQ

This Page is under construction it will hold Frequently Asked Questions & Answers for the guidance of new Site Reps and Plot Holders alike

Will The Council Provide A Skip ?

In the early 90's the local Authority used to drop off skips down roads annually and to allotments. Due to budget cuts this service was withdrawn, and the local Authority no longer supply skips.

If a plot is in such a state that a skip is required the new tenant with the support of the Site Rep can request that the plot holder gets the remainder of the year until October 1st rent free and what the tenant would have paid for rent can go towards the tenant arranging for the removal of the debris and rubbish.

How Do I Get A Notice Board for the Site?

Funding for a notice board would have to come from Local Committee public realm funds, you need to apply to the local committee that the site falls into and they decide how to allocate funds to the various projects that apply. Click Here to find your local committee.

Where Can I Source Woodchip From?

We have found a nice tree surgeon, Harry, he is very happy to do free deliveries of woodchip to allotments as it saves him money as he has to pay to landfill. His Mobile Number is 07825669720 and email Address Info@harrytreecare.co.uk.

Please do not ask him to drop the load using wide paths that will be damaged during the Winter and wet months.

Harry seems to have disappeared but we have found a new source Dan Nicholls 0778829839

Another resource for woodchips is Allister, his mobile number is 07837450565

Now supplying at least 3 allotments in the borough is Little Oak the best way to contact them is via email littleoakgroup@btinternet.com and Peter will see which one of his thee teams are working near to you and arrange to drop off. The office number and I guess answerphone during the day is 0208 287 0543.

Where Can I Source Manure From ?

Veolia have now lost the Met Police Horse Manure contract, and Biffa now have the contract and can deliver manure to allotment sites. Please contact Biffa via email using csteam3@biffa.co.uk

The deliveries are fairly large and a suitable drop off point would need to be agreed. They normally come and check that the area is suitable as it is delivered in dust cart. There are no half loads only full loads. The Police Horses are looked after very well and its more straw that manure and will need time to mature.

How Do I deal with Anti Social Behaviour On Site

If there is anti-social behaviour taking place on site or people feel threatened they should call 999, or if they want to report a crime it is 101, the controllers will most likely task it to the Safer Parks Team if they are on shift.

Plot holders can also contact the Safer Parks Team direct if they wish, the number is 020 8721 2268. It is a mobex so if they are on shift they will answer otherwise it goes to their answer phone.

Eviction following a Termination Notice

I recently asked Bill Wyatt of London Borough of Sutton a series of questions about what exactly is the process of removing a tenant from a plot who has not paid and has been issued a termination notice but insists on still working his plot anyway?  His answers are below:

This is not a one size fits all unfortunately, as every situation will be different as will the resolution. We have had one or two instances of this in the past but they have always gone after a while.

Who asks him to leave the land? - Idverde

Who asks for the key back off him so that in theory he no longer has access, - Idverde

What do site reps do when they see the individual still working his plot? - Contact Idverde
